ANTIQUE ~ Limoge Hand painted Roses Plate from Bawo & Dotter

Offered is a lovely Limoge porcelain plate imported by Bawo and Dotter of New York. The hand painted plate has purple and pink roses with a background featuring a gorgeous watercolor style. This plate is in excellent pre-owned condition with very little signs of wear and no obvious chips, cracks or crazing. See pictures for full state of condition.

Many people new to collecting antique china does not realize that the word Limoges does not refer to a specific manufacturer. Limoges actually refers to the area in France where the fine porcelain pieces were produced. Collectorsweekly.com says, “(Bawo & Dotter was) established in New York City in the 1860s to import porcelain, especially from Limoges, into the USA. In the early 1870s they established The Elite Works in Limoges to decorate porcelain made by other factories.” The "Limoges France" maker's mark on the back probably dates from the 1870s to 1896 when Elite Works purchased their porcelain blanks from other makers.
